As headlines and social media are increasingly inundated with news on the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the average vacationer has become extremely wary to travel during this time. For most, vacation plans are on pause as airlines have canceled flights and different regions have enforced temporary travel bans. Currently, however, we would like to note that there are no domestic travel restrictions within the United States. While airport traffic dwindles, it’s projected that driving-distance destinations will see a boost this year as many are rearranging their vacation plans accordingly.
Spending a vacation in the comfort and safety of a privately owned home is a perfect getaway alternative at the moment. As opposed to the hustle and bustle of resorts, a trip spent away from the crowds and in the open beach air creates the ideal vacation during this time. In a private rental property, you can limit who is coming and going to just you and your travel companions and you can prepare your own food in the kitchen.

What are the symptoms of Coronavirus?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “the most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.”
The consensus from the medical and scientific communities is that most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Older people and those with certain underlying health conditions seem to be at greater risk of developing more serious illness. Anyone who has symptoms of fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention.
What can I do to protect myself from Coronavirus?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported (as of March 3rd, 2020) that most people in the United States will have little immediate risk of exposure to this virus, even in areas impacted by “community spread,” (e.g., a situation in which there are infected people who are not sure how or where they became infected). While this statistic is certainly a relief, it’s important that everyone individually implements simple measures to reduce the risk of catching or spreading the disease. Basic soap and water and alcohol-based hand sanitizers both work to kill viruses that may be on your hands.
